Earl Lewis awarded National Humanities Medal

President Joe Biden awarded historian Earl Lewis with the National Humanities Medal in a July ceremony at the White House. Lewis is the first University of Michigan faculty member to receive a National Humanities Medal, which is given in recognition of his scholarship in justice and equity.
